The benefits of working with a recruitment agency.

One of the main reasons someone might choose to work with a recruitment agency is because it's likely they don't have the time for self-promotion. Whether you're working several part time jobs or simply trying to find that one contract position to cover all your bills, there are few things better than having someone else do some legwork for you. Recruiters research and reach out to potential employers and can give you some great insight on what it's like working with a company. To get the best possible experience, it's worth asking around and getting references before signing up.

Working with recruitment agencies doesn't have to be hard work! Here are some great tips which can make the process much easier for everyone involved.

1. When trying out recruitment agencies, start small and test the waters first. Don't sign a contract with the first recruiter you meet- it's important to give yourself enough time to get a feel for who they are and what they can do for your business.

2. If possible, try and find a long term recruitment agency which offers good benefits. While signing up to several contracts in a row might sound like a great way to make money, it can be pretty taxing for most people.

3. Always ask questions about the roles you're applying for and how your freelancing schedule will work. If something doesn't sound right or is too good to be true, then it's best not to risk your reputation on it.

4. Keep track of who works with whom. If it comes to the point where your recruiter is no longer able to find work for you, don't be afraid to ask about their other employees. It's never a good idea to leave all of your eggs in one basket so keeping track of everyone is always a good idea!

5. Ensure that your contract is clear and easy to understand. If you feel like there are parts of the contract which might be unclear, ask your recruiter directly about them in a non-confrontational way.

6. Lastly, remember that your recruiter is there for you! While it's tempting to constantly bombard them with emails and messages, try and give them space when needed. This will make the process much easier for everyone!
